A Guide to Today's Book Light Technology

Unlike conventional reading lights, which typically take the form of a conveniently placed window, an overhead light, or a floor or table standing lamp, a book light is more personal and more specifically adapted to reading a book. Most designs are portable, making them a great companion wherever its owner goes, and can perform multiple functions in addition to reading a book. When not being used to read, many are used as hobby and craft lights, or as convenient lighting for podiums, clipboards, changing a tire, or a tool box. They’ve also great to read a map in the car, or an instrument panel in an airplane. Some are powerful enough to light an entire choral music folder, grand piano or organ music rack, or instrumentalist’s music stand; and they’ve even been used to light small pieces of art work, especially in traveling exhibits.
